
Sethi Haveli / Mansion
Located in the heart of the historical district of Peshawar city in Pakistan is this architectural gem of a mansion. It is part of a complex of seven mansions built by the rich Hindu trader Sethi family in a dedicated street known as Mohallah Sethian.
This complex was completed in the late 19th. century and is built in a style reminiscent of Central Asian Architecture, built with wood and bricks, with extensive & elaborate carved wooden doors, windows, balconies and walls. It has four tekhanas/basements, balakhana/upper storey, 12 rooms, dalaans/hall& courtyards,chinikhanas/art exhibition rooms,embellished ceilings,fountains,& mirrorwork on walls and ceilings and beautiful painted atriums for fresh air and views.
The top floor has a huge wooden seating area ,known as "Takhte Sulaimani"(Solomon's throne")for the ladies of the house to enjoy the winter's warm sun.
